About Me

Greetings! I'm Luka Lerotic Hettenkofer, but just call me Luka. I'm a game designer with a background in film production.
In my experience of film production, I have directed, produced and gripped several films which developed my communication and planning skills. As a game designer, these skills are useful when facilitating feedback, for collaborating with other developers across different departments, and for organizing ideas and research when writing game design documents.

I also have experience being the Teaching Assistant for Game Design at Loyola Marymount University, my alma mater. Working with the professor, Senior Game Designer Katie Lucas, I guided students in the design and development of their own games. This included providing feedback on documentation and facilitating playtests where several students at a time would playtest and receive feedback for their game with other students, the professor, and me.
Due to my background in film, I love it when games have narrative elements that supplement gameplay. When I design games, I find flavor to be very important for player experience.

As a developer, I am skilled in learning and using new programming languages and scripting tools to implement mechanics and game objects I need. Whenever I do so, I also like making the systems I implement to be easily scalable and reusable, such as the 2D platformer template I developed for my Unity game demo, Animus Core. This template was also used for my other project, Casualty of Time, which I submitted to My First Game Jam.

The list of my favorite games are always changing, but the games I play the most lately are, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Magic: The Gathering, and Warhammer 40K. In Rise of the Tomb Raider, I really enjoy how the story, and action and exploration mechanics come together to communicate Lara's growth. And for the other two games, I really value them for their player identity and multiplayer as they provide a space for me and my friends to play together in different ways as unique characters.
